Week 12 – Activity – Algorithmic Art

This weeks activity is Algorithmic Art! Basically I will create a set of rules and instructions to create something and all you got to do is follow it! Ever get bored in class! I get bored very easily, and tend to doodle or mess around with things I have near me. There are times I end up playing with my gum wrappers after I pop a piece of gum in my mouth. And today I will show you how to create some stuff out of a gum wrapper.

I have created a boat, airplane, hat, flower and few other things just from gum wrappers! I will keep this tutorial simple and teach you guys how to make a boat.

Step 1: Flatten out the foil!

Step 2: Fold it across once. ( Hamburger style)

Step 3: Fold it across again. (Hot dog Style)

Step 4: Fold it again. (Hamburger Style).

Now the foil should like like an even square.

Step 5: Take 2 of the 8 flaps and bend it across the square to form a triangle

Step 6: Bend the left over flaps the opposite direction off the flaps in step 5

You should now have a triangle with a hole in the middle

Step 7: Open the hole formed by the triangles and then bring the opposite ends together.

You should have a diamond like shape.

Step 8: Start at the top of the diamond, and gently pull the two sides apart so that the seam running down the middle of the diamond opens.

Boooom! You got your boat!

If any directions are not clear or the pictures don’t really help, here is a useful link that is well done example of how to make the boat: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Boat
